Before we talk about these three Ladies HERE is a link to a review of the book

Cosey Fanni Tutti

Before Throbbing Gristle, there was COUM transmissions…

…..but then there was Throbbing Gristle..

Here she is on the British Masters

Delia Derbyshire

THIS is a link to an article about the film about Delia that Cosey is working on throughout Re-sisters. It was on Youtube, but it’s since been taken down.

There is this earlier ARENA Documentary from the BBC, however….

… and fortunately, this BBC Radio Scotland interview from 1997 is still available. Bits of it get used in the film, but it’s worth listening to the entire thing.

Delia and the Doctor

Here’s a short video that doesn’t quite do what it promised. Whilst it does show Delia demonstrating the machinery in the workshop, it doesn’t show her working on the Dr Who theme

The producer of Dr. Who’s original idea for the theme tune was to employ Les Structures Sonores, who were a pair of French Brothers who created new musical instruments. Here is some of their work.

Here is the iconic theme being given a “Make Over”. Delia complains quite bitterly in the Radio Scotland interview about often having to chop, change and alter things to the whims of some “Producer”, usually not a musician.

How did the BBC Radiophonic Workshop compare to other countries?

  • HERE is a brief article detailing the work of women within the workshop

  • HERE is a photo essay about the WDR studio in Köln.

  • HERE is a brief description of the RAI Studio in Milan, where Coincidentally, Cosey recorded “A Journey Through the Body” in 1981.

  • Finally, you just gotta love the fruits of the DDR’s labor für akustisch-musikalische grenzprobleme. Meine Damen u. Herren, der SUBHARCHORD !

Margery Kempe

A page from the autobiography, showing the birth of one of Margery’s fourteen children.

One of several short videos about the life of Margery Kempe

A slightly longer, if more conventional account of Margery’s life.
