FILM

Let’s start with the title picture. “Nao Sou Nada” is a good, when not great, movie but still worthy of your attention. If it gets a non-Portuguese speaking public interested in Pessoa it’s done it’s job. Gav thinks that there’s a good film to be made about Pessoa helping Aleister Crowley to fake his suicide, kind of like a Satanist “Withnail and I”.

Tom & Gav had decidedly different takes on Rimini. What did you think?

Tom liked this one, though…

…and Tom was very excited about the feature length Venture Bros. movie “Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart”. This review HERE might spark interest in those unfamiliar with the series.

Television/Streaming

This got Tom’s attention on Netflix…

…whereas Portuguese Amazon Prime had this to offer.

MUSIC

The Bill Laswell/John Zorn collaboration “Memoria” included this track dedicated to Milford Graves…

…the opening of which reminded Gav of this, somehow.

Tom really enjoyed this.

…and this…

…and this!

LIVE MUSIC

What a thrill to see the Sun Ra Arkestra at the Casa da Música!

  • Speaking of Casa da Música, in the last episode, Gav couldn’t remember the name of the Heiner Goebbels piece he played at the start of the year. It turns out it was THIS, which means that Porto got to hear it before London did!

Tom recalled an impressive solo performance by Thomas Ankerschmit at the Goethe. HERE is a link to his website.

BOOKS

  • It Looks like the New York Times didn’t enjoy Barth David Schwatz’s “Passolini Requiem” (review HERE ), but Gav did. HERE is the exhibition that sparked his curiosity.

  • 2023 saw the publication of Bret Easton Ellis’s “The Shards”. It came with a Trailer. Perhaps not surprising for such a cinematic author…

…we have been trying to contact Mr Ellis for further comment, or at least to give him the opportunity to explain himself, but he remains elusive.

PODCASTS

  • One thing that Tom & Gav both had fun with was the Bureau of Lost Culture’s interview with Brian Auger, available HERE

  • Tom enjoyed the Red Scare pod with Bronze Age Pervert, teaser HERE

  • Whilst both enjoyed Conter Radio, link HERE
